CO2 Laser Skin Resurfacing – Fractional CO2
The CO2 Resurfacing Laser is a highly sophisticated laser that gently and precisely removes the top layer of the sun-damaged and aging skin. New skin cells resurface the treated area and lay down new collagen that is indistinguishable from that newborn undamaged skin. This renewal process is similar in the result of a deep chemical peel, yet without its complications. There are two types of CO2 Resurfacing: traditional and fractional. They both can achieve the same results, the fractional CO2 does so with less downtime but takes more treaments to do it. Fractional CO2 lasers are known by different names such as Mixto or Fraxel, ours is called Matrix.
What can be treated effectively?
We use the CO2 Resurfacing laser like an artist’s brush, tailoring the skin rejuvenation procedure to your individual needs. Fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes and the mouth are smoothed. Deep laugh and frown creases can be softened. Acne scars and some uneven surgical scars are rendered much less apparent to the eyes. Even delicate areas on the lips and eyelids can be rejuvenated safely and without bleeding. Depending on the type and depth of the wrinkle or scar, one or more sessions may be scheduled.
CO2 Resurfacing can be used on the face while Fractional CO2 can also be used on the neck and decollete area.
Short recovery time
Patients can expect no bruising or bleeding afterwards. Most patients have minimal pain, even after full face treatments. There is a significant amount of post-operative skin care. Patients are instructed in this and sent home with special creams to keep healing area moist and clean. Some swelling may occur for few days, particularly around the eyes.
With the fractional CO2, the skin is pink for 2-3 days then there is peeling for a few days. Swelling and discomfort is minimal. Most patients are able to go on with daily activities after 2 days. Repeat treatments can be done in 4-6 weeks.
With the traditional CO2, the surface skin is raw initially and heals after 8-10 days. The new skin appears pink for one to three months but the color is easily camouflaged with cosmetics. Most patients are satisfied with one treament.
